Il progetto MAGMA, il cui titolo riprende quello di una delle prime rassegne al femminile curata da Romana Loda nel 1977, intende approfondire la nascita e l’origine dell’arte femminista e del femminismo in Italia, mettendole a confronto con le origini e le diverse condizioni del femminismo Lituano, nato in anni molto più recenti, così da aprire nuove e più documentate prospettive di studio che approfondiscano una delle pagine più originali e controverse della nostra storia recente. Il titolo si rifà anche alla materia viva che brucia sotto la terra come il messaggio che si evince dalle opere delle più di quaranta artiste in mostra, ma può essere letto e scomposto in sillabe differenti: MA – MA che si riferiscono alla donna come mamma e la G nel mezzo che rimanda al corpo di una donna.
MAGMA è la seconda parte, ampliata con una selezione di più di 60 opere, del progetto già iniziato nell’aprile del 2017 presso la National Gallery of Art di Vilnius.

The MAGMA project, the title of which reprises one of the first women’s art exhibitions curated by Romana Loda in 1977, aims to explore the birth and origin of feminist art and feminism in Italy, in contrast with the origins under different conditions of a more-recently-born Lithuanian feminism, thus offering new and better-documented perspectives for study of one of the most original and controversial pages of our contemporary history. The title also refers to the active material burning and bubbling beneath the earth, and to the message we can draw from the works of the more than forty artists in the exhibition, but it can be divided into separate syllables for a further level of reading: MA – MA referring to the woman as mother, and the G in the middle alluding to the shape of a woman’s body.
MAGMA is the second part – expanded with a selection of more than 60 works – of the project begun in April 2017 at the National Gallery of Art in Vilnius.
