L’immagine bianca voluta da VOGUE Italia per la copertina di aprile 2020, in piena emergenza pandemica, è diventata punto d’inizio per un progetto legato a 49 artisti. La cover esce bianca, silenziosa, muta. L’assenza d’immagine esprime attraverso lo sconcerto la presenza di un evento antitetico a un contesto dedicato, per sua specifica natura, alla bellezza e alla gioia del vivere. Si interrompe una consuetudine affermatasi in Italia fin dal 1962, che ha nutrito l’immaginario visivo di migliaia di lettori.
Il mondo si ferma.
Quel vuoto, indizio di assoluto o simbolo di negazione, riesce a coinvolgere realtà artistiche fra le più incisive e significative del nostro tempo. Il bianco che rappresenta il principio della fase vitale, segnale di speranza e fiducia, diventa stimolo creativo per artisti capaci di aderire alla nostra contemporaneità. Torna a vibrare, potentemente visionario, reinterpretato attraverso personali letture. La superficie, come una tela, un foglio o uno spazio in grado di accogliere istanze innovative, diventa racconto collettivo animato da varietà e diversità di linguaggi. Segno della capacità di rimettersi in gioco, di ritrovare nuove aspirazioni, della reinvenzione di altri modi espressivi.
Una storia da raccontare, una storia per ricominciare, una storia per il domani. L’approdo non è ancora toccato, ogni opera è voce individuale ma anche tassello di un progetto che volge fiducioso verso altri mondi.

The white blank page chosen by Vogue Italia for the April 2020 cover in the middle of a pandemic was the starting point for a project involving 49 artists. The cover is white, silent, wordless. The lack of images expresses, through the bewilderment, the presence of an event which is antithetical to a context typically devoted – by its very nature – to beauty and joie de vivre, interrupting a practice established in Italy back in 1964, which has been nurturing the visual imagery of thousands of readers.
The world has stopped.
That void, hinting at the absolute, or a symbol of denial, has involved some of the most insightful and relevant artistic disciplines of present times. White, which embodies the vital principle and is a signal of hope and faith, turns into creative inspiration for artists capable of adhering to contemporary times. White vibrates again, powerfully forward-looking, revisited through a personal point of view. The surface, like a canvas, a sheet, or a space that embraces innovative needs, becomes a collective story, animated by a variety and diversity of languages. A sign of the ability to get back into the game, to find new objectives, to reinvent expressive modes.
A story to be told, a story to start over again, a story for tomorrow. We still haven’t reached a landing place; each artwork expresses an individual voice, but is also a piece of an overall project guiding us, hopefully, towards new worlds.
